If you’re into road bikes, you’ve probably heard of the Diamondback series. Well, Diamondback Century 1 is the predecessor that started this series. The latest release is the Diamondback Century 6, so you can imagine what forms the Century 1.

If price tags are to go by, Century 1 is the cheapest among the six releases. Yet, it loads premium features that make it stand out even four years after its official release. Here is a crackdown of all its features that makes it worth your attention and dime.

Diamondback Century 1 Road Bike

  1. Built

Century 1 comes with frames that are made with custom fully-butted 7005 aluminum alloy. The exterior is painted black to give the frames the five-star appeal they deserve. Nonetheless, the coating prevents rusting, so you can rest assured of longevity and ease of maintenance. The tubes and the frames are SPF air-performed to cut the weight substantially. Simultaneously, the legs are bladed to enable cyclists to do crunches and other techniques you’d wish to achieve with your new ride.

The 1.5″ Alloy Tapered Steerer Tube is rigid enough to increase the cornering techniques. If you tread complex strips that require frequent maneuverability, this tube is your top choice. Even more, the bike includes a Flat Mount Disc Tab that sits directly on the chainstay to minimize space. The stem is a 6061 all-road alloy with a bar bore that measures 31.88mm. It supports a +/-7 degree rise hence making this bike ideal for use even under high temperature.

If you care about the bearing, this bike has you covered with a 100%-FSA sealed cartridge that keeps the bearing safe in place. This arrangement also reduces the crank stiffness, making for easy control. The pedals come in a premium resin for all-road use.

  1. Wheels

Inflated wheels are a standard option in modern bicycles to add a taste of vibrancy. However, this bike wheel is slim enough to match the scope of its functionalities and balance it is intended for. All the two wheels measure 700 cm and come with double-walled Diamond R,28H. Overall, the spokes weigh 14g and are made with stainless steel for durability. Both the rear and front hubs feature 28 alloys with a quick-release arrangement. The rear hub goes ahead to include a cassette for even more ease of use.  Diamondback uses Diamond Century tires for their releases; this model is not any exemption. For perfect grip, the tires come with 30 TPI wire beads. They measure 700x28cm.

  1. Design

Diamond Century 1 is a starter bike, so expect much to its design. However, this doesn’t mean it compromises the classics it needs to match competitors in the market. You’ll find it a rock star that has everything it takes to stand out uniquely. First, the frames are not ballooned, as seen in many bikes. Instead, they are slim enough to match the scope of functionality and balance this bike is intended for. Conversely, the top tube is formed (curved) as a cherry top to the already created classic appeal. The

The head is raised to minimize strain on your neck as you pedal. With 28 lb weight and 22-speeds, this bike is your ideal when looking to hit high speed, especially on flat surfaces. Century 1 is medium-sized, standing 9.00″ high and measuring 54 cm. This makes it a perfect go-to for teenagers and adult cyclists. It has a stack size of 565cm and a reach of 375. When you divide this, the stack-reach ratio is about 1.51, making it fall in the category of the most efficient medium-sized bikes in the world. The top tube and seat tube lengths are 545 and 510, respectively. While the head tube angle is 73 degrees. All these three features make it easy to climb and ride with apex-end maneuverability.

Pros:

  • The cable routing fits into place perfectly
  • The compact chain and 11-speed Shimano are perfect for an uphill ride
  • Cheaper than most of the variants in the market
  • The 22-speed features offer a faster ride compared to most variants.

  • All cable routing is external hence can easily damage

Conclusion

Diamondback Century 1 is a famous brand across the world due to its simple design and stability. Its statue and size make an excellent starter bike for road trips for climbing hillocks like a pro. For its price, this bike will milk value from every single coin you spend.
